Mike&Lynette: Pickerel Lake

We had the kids the WHOLE weekend (well, at least the older 2... Addi didn't come until Sunday)! And let me tell you, it was an action packed weekend full of goodness!

I got the kids off the bus Friday, stopped in the house to get them packed, went to Wendy's for a snack, headed home to pick up Uncle Mike and let the dog out and feed him his dinner, then we all loaded into the car for a "Treasure Hunt" at Pickerel Lake. The four of us (Me, Mike, Amber and Justin) took a 2 mile hike. It was fantastic. The kids really enjoyed themselves and Mike and I had a very enjoyable evening as well. Here is their list of items to "find" and pictures of all the successful finds below! Enjoy...

A caterpillar and butterfly or moth were "unsuccessful" finds. Wrong time of year.

This is the closest they could find to a "blooming" flower

(at least this time of year).

Pine cones... for purposes of the treasure hunt, better known as a seed or seed pod.

Do you see the bird? It is the little black speck right in the middle. Although we saw a ton of birds, this was the first we saw.

And the swans were "wrestling!" Amber and Justin laughed so hard at the three birds playing "tag" across the water... you can probably guess what was really happening. None the less, they enjoyed watching the big birds "play" for at least 10 minutes :)

And an insect... actually the only one we saw all day.

It was getting late towards the end of our hike... but I promise there was a birds nest in the crook of the tree.

A cocoon...

An animal with four legs was also an unsuccessful find... not a squirrel or chipmunk in sight.

A stick in the shape of a letter or number = "V"

And a fish... although we didn't see any live ones, there were plenty of dead floaters which Mike and the kids insisted we take a picture of... ewww gross!
